Street food specialist mourns inspirational father


The owner of South Shields street food restaurant, Delhi 6, Shah Lalon Amin, is mourning the loss of his father, Shah Rahul Amin. The inspiration behind his business, Rahul Amin passed away in January this year.

A well-known business owner and former president of the Tyne and Wear Bangladeshi Association, Ruhul Amin, had a long track record in the industry, opening up his first restaurant, Raj Dalal, in 1975, before retiring in the 1990s. Lalon followed in his footsteps, opening Delhi 6 in 2018.

Lalon says, “He was very popular in the Lawe Top area, where everyone knew him as a gentle, kind-hearted person, who always had time for everyone. He gave me a lot of guidance, and one of the last things he said to me was about the importance of having integrity.” His funeral was attended by hundreds of family members and well-wishers from the local community.
