A former barrister who decided to change career and open a modern spice restaurant chain was awarded an MBE in the New Year’s honours list. Nisha Katona, who founded the Mowgli Street Food business in 2014, was recognised for services to the food industry.
The daughter of parents who migrated to England from the Indian city of Kolkata, Ms Katona said many in her family were initially unconvinced by her decision to establish a small restaurant in her home city of Liverpool, as this meant abandoning a successful legal career. However Nisha wanted to showcase the food her family cooked at home.
The business has grown over the past five years and a 7th Mowgli Street Food restaurant is scheduled to be opened shortly. Nisha has also written two books and appeared on to TV and social media channels.
